Disability will not stop some people

Okay this is something that, on the surface of it, has really impressed the heck out of me at the moment. As much as I have always thought that Second Life was basically insanity this new press release I just received makes me think these guys really are very different from your average game company. What am I rambling on about? Second Life is introducing a new technology to their game to help those who are blind or partially sighted to enjoy something we sighted people take for granted each and every day, the ability to interact with the virtual world with the rest of us!

The Future of Distribution

Discs suck.

It may be my long-standing affair with MMOs, but the distribution method of choice stopped being a shiny disc long ago. With every major game release, I look at all the complaints about disc verification crap and smile. Releases typically go around 8-10 gigs. Installing from DVDs is just sad, and expansion packs (which currently come out every 3 weeks these days) just create horrid complications.

Even consoles are leaving physical media behind. For now, it is mostly streamed movies and some downloaded content, but things are headed away.

Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire 2009

Sony has, year after year, had their fans get together at their Fan Faire and this year is promising to be a very big event. Fans of any of the SOE games, including EQ and EQ2, have been waiting for this one. It is a celebration of ten years of EQ this year, and they are going to party hearty!

The Sims 3: Any Progress?

I'm not exactly a fan of the Sims series. When it first came out, I was delighted to start designing my homes and seeing my Sims... pissing themselves. Will Wright should just have stuck with the architecture. The Sims AI was vomit-inducing (not just for the Sims). Despite a few hundred expansions, a sequel, and a horrible MMO treatment, all I wanted to do was design. The Sims were more of an annoyance in the way of anything remotely approaching fun.

Sims3 Review

Tomorrow is the big day that a lot of people in the UK and elsewhere are waiting for. What is it? Is it a new government reform? Is it a new jet propelled car coming to the market?
No it’s the latest instalment of the Sims franchise, Sims3!

It has just made it to the stores and you’re no doubt stamping your feet waiting for your local game store to open its doors so you can get it, or you’ve pre-ordered it through an on-line shop. That is if you are a died in the wool Sims fan already.

Fallout 3, DLC, and consoles versus PCs

Bethesda's well-celebrated and popular release, Fallout 3, has been kept its head of steam with a steady release of downloadable content, which sells in small, targeted packages that add hours to the game and many options and changes to the original version.

Is Anarchy Online Running Out of Tricks at 8 Years?

One of the longest standing MMOs still very much in the market, Anarchy Online is approaching its 8 birthday. During those 8 years, more has changed than has in any other MMO. This content, however, has come in stuttering leaps and stagnation.
